JON S. (LOS ANGELES REPRESENTATIVE)

A Fulbright scholar hailing from Michigan, Jon has been tutoring and teaching in many different arenas—from the elementary school classroom, to the university hall, to one-on-one in your living, or across the world online—for the last decade. He spent his undergraduate career studying psychology and Spanish and went on to earn a Masters of Fine Arts. Jon has worked with over 600 students both in and out of the classroom with wonderful success. Jon can tutor just about anything, but he specializes in standardized tests including the ACTs, SATs, ISEEs, and SSATs. He utilizes his out-going nature to create a fun atmosphere for the students and to help them make progress toward their target scores. Jon also has a passion for special needs and has worked with a non-profit program on the Upper East Side of New York City called Sparkidz as well as many students with varied obstacles to their learning. Jon currently resides in Los Angeles where he heads up Fresh Outlook Tutors’ L.A. branch. He has 6 siblings and has lived/worked in over 10 states and 3 different countries.

RISA P.

Risa specializes in standardized test preparation for the ACT, SAT, ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, and TACHS, as well as general tutoring in Algebra (I and II), Geometry, Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry. She attended Brown University as part of the 8-year Program in Liberal Medical Education. During her undergraduate years, she worked as a research assistant, publishing papers on scoliosis classification systems and designing instrumentation for spine surgery. She eventually discovered her love for art and went on to earn her Master of Fine Arts from New York University. When she is not tutoring, Risa can be found applying trigonometry and physics to real-life situations as an interactive sculpture and installation artist.

TINA M.

Tina graduated from Columbia University in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Neuroscience and Education. Possessing a strong dedication for academia and scholarship and a passion for research in the field of Neuroscience, Tina is pursuing a doctoral degree in Bio-Psychology and Behavioral Neuroscience at Hunter College. She is a Ph.D. candidate with plans to enter the field of regulatory affairs, which seeks to  protect and advance public health by ensuring the safety and efficacy of new drugs entering the market. Highlights of Tina’s academic career include: tutoring standardized tests, including the ACT, SAT, SHSAT, and ISEE at various companies, including Kaplan; student-teaching a 10th-grade biology class at the Bronx Engineering and Technology Academy; and teaching advanced undergraduate psychology courses. She is also a New York State Certified Secondary School teacher in the subject of biology. Her passion for teaching is matched only by the satisfaction she receives from helping students enjoy learning and gain confidence in their ability to succeed. Tina’s other passions include music, reading, and spending quality time with family and friends.

NINA S.

Nina graduated from Harvard University cum laude with High Honors in English and a secondary field in Dramatic Arts. A highly versatile tutor, Nina has experience teaching a range of subjects including English, History, Math, Science, and Spanish. She also assists students with standardized test preparation and college applications. She believes that effective study skills are essential to academic success and aims to help all of her students develop better organizational strategies while working on the assignment at hand. Nina grew up in New York City where she attended LaGuardia High School. At Harvard, she was a dancer and choreographer for the Harvard Ballet Company and Harvard Contemporary Dance Ensemble, as well as a founding writer and editor for the Harvard Art Review. During her senior year, she wrote an honors thesis featuring the role of New York City in the novels of Ralph Ellison and Saul Bellow. A freelance dancer and choreographer, Nina has continued to pursue a career in writing and currently works for Time Out New York magazine. She particularly enjoys helping students to sharpen their writing skills in a variety of genres while encouraging them to find their own voice. Nina is thrilled to be a member of the Fresh Outlook team and is excited to provide general academic and test support.

JENNY Z.

Originally from Houston, Texas, Jenny moved to the East Coast to attend Georgetown University, where she graduated cum laude with a major in English and minors in French and Inter-arts. For the past five years, Jenny has tutored students in French, History, English, and Math. She also has experience in standardized test preparation including the ISEE, SSAT, SAT and ACT. In college, Jenny was active in student film and theatre, and after graduation she decided to move to New York to act professionally. She has appeared in numerous plays in the city and in several independent films.

HOLT C.

Holt specializes in upper-level math and science instruction and SAT preparation. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a major in mechanical engineering and minors in both math and entrepreneurship. After his junior year at Penn, Holt participated in an aerospace research internship at NASA Langley in Virginia. He was fortunate enough to spend a semester of his college career studying in Australia and traveling through South East Asia. Holt currently works in commercial building energy efficiency. He’s an engineer-in-training and holds a LEED accredited professional certificate.

ALLISON H.

Allison developed her love for Spanish language and culture as a Spanish major at the University of Maryland and through a work/study abroad program in Seville, Spain. She has taught elementary and middle school Spanish and has tutored in-home Spanish. Allison is currently enrolled in a graduate program of Speech-Language Pathology at CUNY-Hunter College, where she hopes to obtain a bilingual certification. Allison’s love for Spanish has motivated her to teach the language to others. Having an extensive background working with school-aged children and an appreciation for the difficulty of learning a second language, Allison adapts her Spanish lessons so they are accessible and understandable to each student.

DANA S.

Dana has worked with children in diverse capacities. She started tutoring in 2005, and has also worked as a camp and leadership mentor. As a tutor, she draws from all of these perspectives, whether she is teaching SAT grammar, ISEE math, literary analysis, or organizational skills. Dana is originally from San Francisco Bay, and she stayed close to home to attend Stanford University. While at Stanford, Dana majored in political science with an emphasis on international relations, wrote for the school newspaper, and ran the human rights magazine. She moved to New York to study journalism and international relations at NYU, where she received the Goren Fellowship, her program’s highest academic award. Dana also loves to travel and has lived in Israel, France and Ghana.

MATT D.

Matt specializes in high school math and sciences, including physics, chemistry, algebra, and geometry. During the day, he is a researcher in a gynecologic cancer research laboratory at the The Mount Sinai Hospital, where he studies early detection and disease monitoring methods. Matt completed his premedical studies at Columbia University in New York, and earned his degrees in psychology and English from the University at Buffalo. He loves the outdoors, and his hobbies include biking, swimming, hiking, skiing, and long distance running. Matt also has the unfortunate luck of being a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan.

NATE M.

Nate is an educator, tutor, and musician living and working in New York City. He has a BA in Cinema Studies from Oberlin College and a BFA in Jazz Studies from Oberlin Conservatory, and has worked as a counselor and teaching artist in summer camps and after school programs throughout the city and country, including the Trevor Day School, White Bird Productions, and Camp Nebagamon for Boys. Nate teaches reading, writing skills, math, and SAT preparation. When he isn’t tutoring, Nate is composing, performing, and touring in a number of groups on saxophone, guitar, electronics, and more, and his performances have taken him from Brooklyn to Beijing, and many places in between. He is a nature lover, a twin, and a former national Scrabble champion.

JESS G.

Jessica is an experienced tutor and veteran NYC elementary school teacher. Throughout her tenure as a teacher in Manhattan’s District 2, she has worked with students ranging from highly gifted to those with diagnosed learning disabilities. Her passion is math and science education and she loves to find ways to make learning fun and engaging. Jessica is a standardized test prep specialist with Fresh Outlook Tutors and has successfully prepared many students for the New York City Gifted and Talented test (G&T), the Stanford-Binet test for Hunter College Elementary School (Hunter Test), the Aabl, and the WISC-V test (ECAA) for the ERB. She is proud to report that many of her students have been accepted into their first choice schools!  She has also prepared numerous students for the common core standardized tests. Jessica holds an MS in teaching and is a Teach for America alumna. She is also a NYC licensed teacher with Gifted Certification, and is currently in the process of gaining additional certification in Speech and Language Pathology.

JAY H.

Jay graduated from Wesleyan University with a B.A. in English and Philosophy, and received his M.A. from Columbia University in English Education. Since entering the test prep industry five years ago, Jay has functioned as a tutor, content developer, consultant, and coveted mentor. To date, he has worked with 1000+ students on various standardized tests (SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, SHSAT, TOEFL, GRE) and helped 100+ students matriculate to their top choice schools. Jay scored in the 99th percentile on every standardized exam he’s ever taken, including the SSAT, ISEE, SAT, ACT, GRE, five SATII subject tests (Math I, Math II, Physics, Chemistry, and Literature), and 11 AP exams. He takes pride in his passion for education, and constantly strives to develop a learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and growth. Outside of tutoring/consulting, Jay is a writer, avid fan of basketball/soccer, chess enthusiast, and a food critic.

IMANI G.

Imani is a native New Yorker, raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Many years ago, she took her SHSAT, earned top scores, and was admitted to her first choice high school, Brooklyn Technical, where she developed a love for Mandarin Chinese. At Middlebury College, Imani decided to take her passion for languages further by majoring in Chinese and minoring in Spanish. After graduation, she volunteered in Xi’An, China as an English teacher. In addition to Chinese and Spanish, Imani tutors many different subjects and a variety of standardized tests. She helps students with Biology, Algebra, Geometry, and English, to name a few. She has also prepared students for all three levels of the ISEE exam, Math/ELA tests, SAT/ACT, and Regents. During the day, Imani is an Academic Coach at Academics West, where she specializes in working with students with learning issues such as depression, anxiety, autism, ADD, ADHD, OCD, and executive functioning disorder. Imani believes that taking a holistic approach to education creates well-rounded students who are knowledgeable about their community and the world in which they live.

JESSICA T.

Jessica has been teaching history for the past four years at one of the top high schools in New York City. She specializes in tutoring history and Regents preparation. A native of Tenafly, New Jersey, Jessica was a musical theater actor for ten years before she realized that her true calling was teaching. She graduated with a Masters from Teachers College at Columbia University. Jessica has had incredible successes with her students, many of whom have gone on to the top schools in the country. Jessica believes that for students to achieve they must love learning, so she makes it a priority for her students to enjoy their time studying.
